What is a Cone Beam CT (CBCT)?
A Cone Beam CT is an advanced 3D imaging scan that captures highly detailed views of the teeth, jaw, facial bones, sinuses and surrounding structures. It provides three dimensional images that allow clinicians to assess anatomy with exceptional clarity.
What can CBCT scans be used to assess?
CBCT scans are commonly used for dental implant planning, impacted or unerupted teeth, orthodontic assessment, TMJ evaluation, sinus assessment and pre surgical planning. The detailed imaging supports accurate diagnosis and treatment planning.
Is a Cone Beam CT safe?
CBCT uses a focused radiation dose limited to the area being examined. The technology is designed to provide detailed imaging while keeping radiation exposure as low as reasonably achievable.
Do I need to prepare for a CBCT scan?
In most cases, no special preparation is required. You may be asked to remove jewellery, glasses or any metal objects around the head and neck before the scan.
How long does a CBCT scan take?
The scan is quick and comfortable. Patients remain seated or standing while the scanner rotates around the head, with image acquisition typically completed in under a minute.
Are Cone Beam CT scans bulk billed?
Bulk billing eligibility depends on your referral and Medicare criteria. Our team can confirm fees and any out of pocket costs when you book your appointment.
