At United Radiology Melbourne Clinics, we provide vascular ultrasound imaging to provide imaging that may assist your referring doctor in assessing circulation and identifying potential vascular concerns.
A vascular ultrasound may be requested by your GP or specialist to investigate concerns such as suspected blood clots (DVT), varicose veins, carotid artery disease, peripheral arterial disease (PAD), or to monitor conditions. We also perform renal artery and mesenteric artery ultrasound examinations.
All scans are performed by qualified sonographers and reviewed by a radiologist, with results provided directly to your referring practitioner to guide appropriate next steps in your care.
What technology is used?
United Radiology Melbourne clinic’s vascular ultrasound services use advanced Doppler and high‑frequency ultrasound technology to assist assessment of blood flow and the structure of arteries and veins. Doppler ultrasound enables mathematical evaluation of how blood moves through vessels, helping your referring doctor understand patterns of circulation and identify potential abnormalities such as narrowing, clots or other vascular changes.
Post appointment care
A vascular ultrasound is a diagnostic imaging procedure and does not involve treatment. After the scan, patients can return to their normal activities immediately, as no special recovery is required. Results are reviewed by a radiologist, and a report is sent to your referring doctor, who will discuss the results and any next steps in your care plan with you.
Is a Vascular Ultrasound Bulk-billed?
Yes. Vascular ultrasounds are bulk-billed for patients with a valid medicare card and referral. We recommend you confirm Medicare eligibility when booking your appointment.
