Musculoskeletal & Sports Ultrasound

At United Radiology clinics, we provide Sports and Musculoskeletal Ultrasound imaging to assist in the assessment of sports injuries, joint pain, and muscle or tendon conditions. This specialised form of musculoskeletal ultrasound uses real-time imaging to examine soft tissues, including muscles, ligaments, tendons, and joints.

Sports and Musculoskeletal Ultrasound is commonly used to assist in investigating conditions such as sprains, strains, tendon injuries, bursitis, and other sports-related concerns. Our experienced radiologists and sonographers work closely with your GP, sports physician, or specialist to ensure clear, timely reporting.

Why get a Musculoskeletal & Sports Ultrasound?

Your doctor may refer you for musculoskeletal ultrasound to assist in investigating:

• muscle strains or tears

• ligament sprains

• tendon injuries

• monitoring changes in ongoing conditions

How long does the appointment take?

A sports or musculoskeletal ultrasound appointment at United Radiology usually takes around 20–30 minutes, depending on the area being examined.

You may be asked to arrive a little earlier for registration, and patients can resume normal activities immediately following their scan.

Post ultrasound care

There is no post-scan care required after a musculoskeletal ultrasound. You can generally return to your usual activities straight away unless your referring doctor advises otherwise. Your results are reviewed by a radiologist and sent to your referring practitioner, who will discuss them with you.

Is a Musculoskeletal & Sports Ultrasound bulk-billed?

Yes Musculoskeletal & Sports Ultrasound are bulk-billed for patients with a valid Medicare card and referral.
